Scottie for a Friend

Day 159:  Today's doodle is a picture I did on a postcard for a dear, dear friend.  I'll send it tomorrow.

Please, God, bless!

Fear Not

Day 158:  Another doodle inspired by Anne Graham Lotz.
"While God doesn’t always protect those He loves from suffering or answer our prayers the way we ask Him to, He does promise in His Word that He will be present with us in the midst of our suffering and pain. He said, “Fear not. . . . When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. . . . For I am the Lord, your God . . . your Savior; . . . you are precious and honored in my sight, and . . . I love you” (Isa. 43:1-4, NIV)."

New Perspective

Day 157:  Sometimes we just need to get a new perspective on things.

Please, God, bless!

Sin Labels

Day 156:  Today's doodle is inspired by this e-devotional from Anne Graham Lotz:

Naming Your Sin
"That you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins." Matthew 9:6 NKJV

"Only God in Christ has the power to forgive sin. But you and I must confess it to Him personally, specifically, and honestly if we want to receive forgiveness. God promises, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9, NIV). That word confess means to call sin by the same names that God does, to agree with God about your sin.

You and I often play games with the names we call sin to make it seem less like sin. For example, we call the sin of unbelief, worry. We call the sin of lying, exaggeration. We call the sin of fornication, safe sex.

As long as we switch the labels on sin to make it seem less serious, we’re being dishonest with ourselves and with God, and we remain unforgiven. But, if we say the same thing about our sin that God says-if we say, “God, it’s lying. It’s jealousy. It’s lust. It’s revenge. It’s hate. It’s adultery. It’s unforgiveness”-God will forgive us! So start naming your sin for what it is in God’s eyes."

Evil Abounds

Day 155:  From the WSJ...
"Islamic State militants seized a string of Christian villages in northeastern Syria and kidnapped scores of civilians, according to human-rights groups and local residents....
Fifty-five families were missing, he said. Priests, women and children were among the hostages seized, the Assyrian Network for Human Rights said on Tuesday....
The radical fighters raised Islamic State’s black flag over the villages after seizing them on Monday, the rights group said. The captured villages have large concentrations of Assyrian Christians, an ancient minority in the region."
The estimates are around 150 people are missing from this hostile and violent invasion.  This is a callous evil, without feeling or remorse.  It is insidious in its nature, horrific in its brutality, and vicious and purposeful in its attack on Christians.  This is an evil of supernatural proportions.

Lest we think this is in a land far, far, away, consider that reports say the US has allowed more Muslim immigrants in the country the last few years than those from Mexico and Central America, we should sit up and take note. Imagine this is your neighborhood, your friends, your family... because it very well could be as long as Americans remain agnostic to the growing threats.

Please pray for the missing families, for the children and the parents trying to remain faithful and strong, for protection, rescue, and justice.  Pray for our nation, that it will wake up out of its stupor. Pray against the one who sustains this evil, for he will not rest until his demise.

Please, God, bless!

Turtle Time

Day 154: I felt like drawing a turtle.  Now I know why...I love this verse!

Sometimes I am in such a hurry I end up spending more time correcting what I screwed up than I would have taken in the first place!

Please, God, bless!

Like a Child...

Day 153:  I remember my son as a toddler.  He would fall, or get scared, and come running to me to be gathered in my arms for protection.  When I would get home from work, he would race to the door to see me, so happy I was home.  In the mornings, before I would leave, he would hear me and run down to kiss me goodbye.  If he wanted to know something, he would ask me and I would answer.  If I was sitting on the couch, he would come and snuggle next to me just to be near me.  He would come to me in tears when there was an injustice in the world, and bound in with joy when good was evident.

I suppose all of us did the same as young children.  Unfortunately, as we get older, we lose that implicit trust, that need to be near, the belief that your parents know everything, and can protect you from anything.  Numbness invades our compassion, and complacency and selfish expectations cloud our joy.

That is why God tells us to become like children.

Too often we take on these battles, instead of running to the Father.  When we have spare time, we don't seek His company, we opt for the computer, TV, etc.  When we have a question, we look on the internet, seek the counsel of friends, sometimes flip a coin rather than asking the One who knows the outcome.    Evil bombards us every day--mass murders, rapes, perversity, lies, pride, and we frown as we turn to the entertainment news for something less real and more fun...instead of dropping to our knees in horror and praying to the Ultimate Victor.  When there is goodness, we take it for granted, that it is deserved, or ignore it altogether, instead of thanking the One who shows mercy and grace, abounding in love.

I figured I would quickly doodle one of my fave gals, when she was much, much, younger of course. Her wide, genuine smile and hearty laugh always came easily as she shared her joy with me. Memories of all of my fave kids inspire me (even though they are growing up) and remind me to constantly run to the One Who Sees Me, and LOVES me MOST.

Please, God, bless!

Consuming Fire

Day 152:  There is something about sitting in front of a fireplace, wrapped in a blanket on a snowy day that causes one to be contemplative, thoughtful, and brooding.  As the boys played video games, I sat and read for a while, then enjoyed a glass of wine as the flames devoured log after log.

Its interesting, isn't it?  Fire is so essential to live, yet has the power to destroy.  God used fire in many ways: to solidify his covenant with Abraham, to reveal himself to Moses, to lead the people of Israel from Egypt, to anoint with the Holy Spirit, to destroy cities, to refine us spiritually, and to Judge the wicked in Hell.

How will you respond to the Fire of God?  Will you let it warm you, seal you as His, let it reveal Truth to you, let it lead you, let it anoint you for His work, let it burn away your impurities?  Or will you be careless, and let the flames you sought after ignite the temptations of the world, and ultimately destroy you?

Its a fine line between wielding the fire and being consumed by it.  It takes constant attention, care, and caution.

Please, God, bless!

"..each one’s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done." 1 Co 3:13

Tea Hugs!

Day 151:  It was a crazy week with the snow, playing catch up at work, catch up at home, and so much going on in the world that it almost seems fictitious.  And that's when I settle in, throw on my jammies and fluffy robe and get cozy with...you guessed it!  Another cup of tea!

It may seem weird, especially if you don't like tea, but my cup of tea is almost like the "hug" God gives me to get me to exhale, and relax.

Please, God, bless!

Memory and Hockey

Day 150:  Great day!  Memorized some verses, and went to the Caps game--and they WON!

Verses from memory (ok, I had to peek on the last part!):

"James, a bond servant of God and the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes who are dispersed abroad: Greetings.  Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.  And let endurance work its perfect result, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.  But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God who gives to all in generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him."
