Waiting for a Promise

Day 175:  You're in line at the store and the person in front of you whips out a checkbook.....ARGHHH!  It takes FOREVER!  Or, maybe you sent an email at work, and its been a whole day and you haven't seen a response. What about a day spent at the DMV?

Maybe your spouse promises to take some time off to spend with you.  But its the busy season.  A week goes by, a month...

I imagine Sarah, after so many years of being barren being promised a child.  I imagine she was in shock-she couldn't believe it.  Then she allowed herself to be excited.  Days went by... weeks.... months.....years....can you imagine the waiting?

It's easy to read the story and pass judgement.  Why didn't she just believe God?  Did she lack faith?

We live in a society of instant gratification.  I get frustrated when it takes more than 5 seconds to click from one web page to another.  Can you imagine an amazing promise, something you've waited for your whole life, and life resumes its normal pace...mundane tasks still need to be completed, little annoyances creep in, people continue without anticipation of wondrous things.

Tom Petty sings, "The waiting is the hardest part".  He's right. But its through the waiting that God is testing our faith, making it grow stronger.  When we go ahead of God, we set ourselves up for less than his best for us, and maybe even pain and heartbreak.  So, even though the checkout girl is slow, or doctor is running behind, remember, the waiting has a point even if we don't understand it.

Please, God, bless!

"The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him." Lamentations 3:25 ESV

Inspired by "365: A Daily Creativity Journal: Make Something Every Day and Change Your Life!" I decided I should be more conscientious of my creative side. I chose to modify this one year challenge (9/23/14-9/24/15) to create something each day that would also force me to focus my perspective on a Godly world-view.
